WHAT
WE DO

Corrupt the Youth is an outreach program that brings philosophy to high school students. We principally work in Title I schools – schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families.

In introducing students to philosophy, we aim to close (or reduce) the ‘opportunity gap’ between these students and their wealthier peers. Our broad goal is to provide students with a framework through which to understand, critically evaluate, and address some of the unique issues that today’s youth face (like police brutality, dog-whistle politics, and xenophobia, to name a few).

Engaging in philosophical inquiry allows students to reflect critically on their beliefs, values, and commitments. Exploring some of the complex issues, both theoretical and practical, that philosophy concerns itself with, also helps to shape students who are better thinkers and better listeners, who are more empathetic and more reflective.

“I learned a lot from this course, especially stuff that our normal teachers wouldn’t really teach us. I realized that sometimes I believe things just because everyone else does and that I need to think more about certain topics.”
